P6 Scheduler
Job Summary:
The P6 Scheduler is responsible for project scheduling, resource allocation, and task sequencing using Primavera P6. The Scheduler will also collaborate with teams to create, maintain, and update schedules, ensuring adherence to timelines, critical path analysis, and effective communication of project progress. An additional Scheduler responsibility is to provide training and uphold quality standards in scheduling practices.
Responsibilities
Schedule Development:
The project scheduler collaborates with the project manager and relevant stakeholders to gather project requirements, define project scope, and identify all necessary tasks. They break down the project into smaller activities and determine their dependencies, durations, and sequencing.
Task Sequencing and Dependency Management:
The project scheduler establishes the logical order in which tasks should be performed based on their dependencies. They identify any relationships between activities, such as start-to-finish, start-to-start, finish-to-finish, and incorporate them into the schedule.
Resource Allocation:
The project scheduler works closely with the project manager and resource managers to allocate resources to each task. They consider resource availability, skill requirements, and constraints while assigning resources to ensure that tasks can be completed as planned.
Estimation and Duration Assessment:
The project scheduler collaborates with the project team to estimate the duration of each task. They consider factors such as historical data, expert judgment, and input from subject matter experts to determine realistic timeframes for task completion.
Schedule Creation:
Using project management software P6 or scheduling tools, the project scheduler creates the project schedule. They input all the necessary information, including task names, start and end dates, durations, dependencies, and assigned resources. The schedule is then documented and communicated to the project team and stakeholders.
Schedule Maintenance and Updates:
Throughout the project, the project scheduler continuously monitors the progress of tasks and updates the schedule accordingly. They track actual start and end dates, compare them to the planned schedule, and adjust as needed. They also account for any changes, delays, or unforeseen circumstances that may impact the schedule and take corrective actions to mitigate potential risks.
Critical Path Analysis:
The project scheduler identifies the critical path, which is the longest sequence of dependent tasks that determines the project's overall duration. They analyze the critical path to identify tasks with no flexibility and ensure that they are completed on time to avoid project delays.
Reporting and Communication:
The project scheduler provides regular status updates and reports on the project schedule to the project manager, team members, and stakeholders. They communicate any schedule changes, risks, or issues that may impact the project's timeline and work collaboratively to address them.
Training:
The scheduler will be responsible for training new employees. This includes preparing training lessons and supporting junior colleagues in learning and using scheduling programs.
